چکیده

In this paper, an energy conservation mechanism to maximize the unavailability interval and to improve the energy efficiency for the Power Saving Class in WiMAX are proposed. The proposed method can be implemented in commercial fields and is fully compatible with the 802.16 standard. It provides a systematic way to adjust the start frame number of the first sleep window, one of the relevant parameters defined in power saving performance. The sleep cycle concept from IEEE 802.16m is applied to increase the unavailability interval. In summation to the computational complexity, simulations are studied to the procedure of the proposed algorithms. Our proposed model proves the unavailability interval ratio may increase up to 49.8% in some instance. Key-Words: Power saving, Start frame number, Unavailability interval, WiMAX

A Feasible Power Saving Scheduling Approach in WiMAX 802.16e Networks

IEEE 802.16 is a novel broadband wireless access standard. Quality of service (QoS) guarantee and power saving are two important factor in IEEE 802.16 standard. Unsolicited grant service (UGS) is a constant bit rate QoS service and is defined in IEEE 802.16 standard. Power saving classes of type II (PSCs-II) is provided in IEEE 802.16 standard for repeat fixed active and sleep frames. However, ...

Efficient Power Saving Mechanism Considering Unavailability Interval in the IEEE 802.16e Systems

In the IEEE 802.16e system, we propose an efficient power saving mechanism that increases the unavailability interval when the mobile station (MS) uses multiple power saving classes(PSCs). Through the simulation results, we show that the proposed mechanism reduces the power consumption of MSs considerably compared with conventional mechanism.

An Overview of Group Key Management Issues in IEEE 802.16e Networks

The computer industry has defined the IEEE 802.16 family of standards that will enable mobile devices to access a broadband network as an alternative to digital subscriber line technology. As the mobile devices join and leave a network, security measures must be taken to ensure the safety of the network against unauthorized usage by encryption and group key management. IEEE 802.16e uses Multica...

Security Vulnerabilities and Solutions in Mobile WiMAX

The development of IEEE 802.16 was started by the IEEE in 2001. After that it was revised several times and ended in the final standard IEEE 802.16-2004 which corresponds to revision D and is often called Fixed WiMAX [1]. It defines Wireless Metropolitan Broadband access for stationary and nomadic use. This means end devices can not move between base stations (BS) but they can enter the network...

A Dynamic Sleep Interval Decision Scheme for Power-Saving with Minimum Delay in IEEE 802.16e Mobile WiMAX

We observe that the state-of-the-art power-saving mechanisms (PSM) for IEEE 802.16e is neither optimal in terms of delay nor in terms of energy consumption. We propose a new PSM which achieves the optimality in terms of the average buffering delay without increasing energy consumption. In order to do so, we derive a formula which relates the average buffering delay to sleep intervals. Simulatio...
